Susan (Sue) is a graduate of Rockford West High School and a lifelong resident of Rockford, with the exception of one and a half years living in Denver, Colorado. There, she continued her work as an optician assistant and worked in that field for six years. She attended Carroll University in Waukesha, Wisconsin, and later, graduated with an M.A. degree in Education from Rockford University in 1970.

Sue taught second grade students for 34 years in the Harlem Consolidated School District in Machesney Park and retired in 2005. In 1993, she received her M.S. degree in Education from St. Xavier University.

Sue serves on various boards in Rockford. She has served the role as Ethnic Heritage Museum Board President for nearly 5 years. She has been a Winnebago County Retired Teachers Association Public Relations Chair for several years, and serves as Reservations co-chair for Perry Department Rockford Woman’s Club. SWIFTT’s present secretary as well as continuing board member for many years.

She continues to belong to the League of Woman Voters and is a past Voter Services Co-Chair.  Sue was a precinct committee woman for two terms. She is an active member at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Rockford.

Her strong ties with family, friends and the general Rockford community have kept Sue here. Retirement has brought many new opportunities for volunteer service. It has been a great way to stay focused and explore many new connecting possibilities.
